Pori Moni tells court about being ‘sexually harassed’

Actress Pori Moni today described before a Dhaka tribunal how she was sexually harassed by Dhaka’s Uttara Boat Club Limited’s former president Nasir U Mahmud, his associate Tuhin Siddiqui Omi, and several others in June last year.

The actress said this while giving her depositions against Nasir, Omi and their associate Shah Shahidul Alam in an attempted rape and murder case.

Pori Moni further told the court that the accused were directly involved with the incident took place at the club. Judge Md Hemayet Uddin of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 of Dhaka recorded a part of her deposition.

As she could not complete giving her statement today, the tribunal fixed January 11, 2023 for recording the rest of her deposition.

During the today’s hearing, Omi and Shahidul were present at the court while Nasir remained absent. On May 18, the same tribunal framed charges against them.

On September 6 last year, Mohammad Kamal Hossain, inspector (investigation) of Savar Model Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.

Pori Moni filed the attempted rape and murder case against Nasir, also a real estate businessman and presidium member of the Jatiya Party, Omi and four unidentified people on June 14 last year.

A team of detectives carried out a raid at a house in Uttara Sector-1 and arrested Nasir and Omi the same day. They were also shown arrested in another case filed with Airport Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.

They were earlier charged with the narcotics case after Detective Brach of police found their involvement with possessing 1,000 pieces of yaba pills.
