The tally of infections in the country has surged to 1,22,660 after 3462 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours. Besides, 37 more fatalities from the virus have been reported during the time, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 1582.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Wednesday.
A total of 16,433 samples have been tested at 66 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 3462 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 1,22,660, she said.
Meanwhile, 2031 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 49,666, the health official said.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 9,369,381 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 480,095 while 5,060,602patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
