Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Harun or Rashid has been temporarily suspended from his position after an incident involving the assault of two central leaders of the Chhatra League at Ramna police station. This decision was made public on Monday afternoon.

The suspension came after a series of swift actions were taken following the incident. On Sunday noon, authorities announced that ADC Harun was being transferred from the Ramna Division and reassigned to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Riot Suppression or Public Order Management Division. Later that evening, he was informed of his new posting at the Armed Police Battalion (APBN).

However, the situation escalated on Monday when BCL Central President Saddam Hossain and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif met with Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq, demanding justice for the Chhatra League leaders who had been subjected to violence.

It is worth noting that the decision to suspend ADC Harun was taken following the meeting between the two Chhatra League leaders and the DMP Commissioner. Home Minister [Name], when asked about the suspension, confirmed the development.

The victims, Chhatra League leaders, alleged that ADC Harun Or Rashid orchestrated the assault that occurred in the OC (Investigation) room of Shahbag police station last Saturday night. Fortunately, other BCL leaders and activists intervened and rescued the affected leaders from the police station.

The three Chhatra League leaders who suffered injuries as a result of the assault were identified as Central Organizing Secretary Anwar Hossain Naeem, who is also the President of Dhaka University’s Fazlul Haque Hall unit, and Central Science Affairs Secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim, who serves as the General Secretary of Shahidullah Hall unit. Anwar Hossain’s injuries were so severe that he had to be admitted to the hospital, while the others returned to their respective halls after receiving medical treatment.

The victimized leaders have alleged that ADC Harun’s actions were motivated by personal issues he had with the Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to President Azizul Haque, who, in turn, contacted the Chhatra League leaders.

In response to the incident, DMP formed a three-member investigation committee on Sunday. The committee, led by DMP’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), has been tasked with completing the inquiry within two days and submitting a comprehensive report on the matter.
